Sports and Expensive Gadgets: Which One Is Your Boyfriend More Obsessed With

Why are men so obsessed with everything sports related? On the other hand, some guys cannot seem to pass up a trip to any electronics store selling the latest gadgets. Combine the two and there’s little hope of getting a word in about household chores, kid’s grades, or even that leaky faucet.

The Competition Factor

Sports games present the opportunity to watch and participate in competition, something men are programmed to enjoy. This competition factor dates back to pre-historic times when men had to compete for everything from a mate to food. Testosterone, the male hormone, encourages this level of competition as well. This could be why that game of Monopoly with the kids almost always ends up in Dad winning the match.

Not only can engaging in sports activities allow the physical strength, wit, and cunning of any man to come out, but even watching it on television allows guys to take sides with the hopes of beating out friends or family members with their picks.

The Science Driven Mind

On the other hand, men are very scientific-driven. That is, while women are programmed to be emotionally charged, men are fact-based. Men tend to rate higher on science, engineering, and math testing because of their ability to reason more efficiently than women can. It is not to be taken offensively, since women are far better capable of making emotionally impactful decisions where men lack this ability in many cases.

The fact is that many men are interested in gadgets because they allow a new level of scientific challenge. A new gadget is much like a toy to a five-year-old. It gives him the ability to learn something new, figure out how something works, and to uncover the many uses for such a product. Of course, there is always the potential implication that such a gadget allows for a faster, simpler, easier way to accomplish a task, too, something that men have been focused on doing since the dawn of time.

The Acceptable Bond

Though times are changing, many men still have the emotional limitation of thinking that hugs and kissing have nothing to do with friendship. Bonding is not always about touching and feeling with guys. That could be why men prefer to bump chests rather than to give a long hug to another man.

That is also why sports are such a draw for men. It is a type of bond for them to participate in. For some men, getting Cincinnati Bengals Tickets with their Dad each year allows for that bonding time they crave, but dare not ask for. It also allows for that close relationship to other guys that may not seem right any other way. Men bond over a good game of football the same way women bond over a manicure and some tea.

It may not be possible to define which of these two things men are more obsessed with, but it goes without saying that both are likely to be a part of his everyday life. After all, it stems from his makeup, not something he can readily control otherwise.
