They still have more than six months left and so far they have two of their Mac's upgraded to the 2011 Intel processors and they are the iMac and the MacBook Pro. The Mac Pro, Mac Mini, Macbook Air as well as the white MacBook are still awaiting the upgrades. The MacBook Pro UpgradeThe 13-inch MacBook Pro after its upgrade features the latest dual-core processor, making it twice as fast than the previous generation and starts selling at $1,199. Apple upgraded the faster and larger 15 inch and 17 inch configurations as well. Integrated Intel HD graphics combined with Sandy Bridge architecture and 384MB of DDR3SDRAM. The 13-inch entry level model has a 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 chip and 3MB shared L3 cache. The new upgraded MacBook Pro is the first computer to have the unique Thunderbolt I/O technology. | Explosion at Apple’s China Factory and What It Means for iPad’s Future Posted: 24 Dec 2019 06:59 AM PST
Guest post by Jennifer Blanche Thanks to Apple's multiple factory sites, the recent explosion at the Hon Hai Precision Industry Company a subsidiary of Foxconn (one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers) in Chengdu, Southwest China will most likely not affect Apple's bottom line. It will, however, slow down some of the ongoing production as facilities shift to other nearby plants particularly in the city of Shenzhen which, oddly enough, some report was in the process of moving to Chengdu before the explosion occurred. Other reports state that the Shenzhen facility is slated to increase its production from four to five million units per month to nine to ten million. The DigiTimes, an Asian tech-blog, reported that Foxconn was responsible for approximately twenty-five to thirty-percent of the iPad2 shipments within the last month. It is also responsible for parts production of the iPhone and other high end products including those for Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Asus, Kindle, Dell, Acer and Nokia. Accident or NeglectThe explosion took the lives of three workers and injured approximately fifteen. Preliminary reports state that the accident occurred in the 'polishing plant' duct where a special flammable dust is used to clean the iPad screens. Others have indicated that apparently a worker was smoking too close to the dust which in turn ignited the explosion. This, however, may not be the actual cause as information regarding the explosion is changing daily including the deplorable working conditions. Students and Scholars Against Corporate Misbehavior (SACOM) recently posted that the explosion was no accident due to authorities, including contract companies such as Apple, neglected a May 6th report citing hazardous and unsafe working environments within the factory. Foxconn currently stated that the explosion did not affect the production lines and that it was confined to a storage site which contained chemicals and the specialized iPad2 coating formulas. This statement is suspect due to the fact that Foxconn's stock dropped five percent during recent Asian trading. The explosion does not help the reputation of Foxconn which has been struggling with on site suicides. It has been so much of a problem that they have actually had to construct netting to prevent jumping off of the high walkways; set up counseling and even offered entertainment to boost morale. "The Mother of All Backlogs"Apple has been trying to keep up with the overwhelming demand for the iPad2 which was launched this past March. There has been a one to two week delay for online orders and some customers have described back orders of up to one month in postponement. However, analysts report that this explosion is a temporary hiccup in production and that other production solutions were immediately put into action. In fact, Foxconn almost immediately reported that inventory is a week ahead of itself enabling a full shut down and safety inspection to minimally affect production. RBC Capital analyst Mike Abramsky is quoted as stating that the explosion may temporarily decrease production by about a one million unit setback. Even though this is temporary it will not sit well with existing orders as well as potential new ones. The already termed "mother of all backlogs" for the iPad2 distribution has caused some consumers to look elsewhere for their tablet fix including Samsung, Blackberry and Verizon designs. These unfortunately still pale in comparison to Apple's superb touch screen technology that still has consumers wowed and willing to wait however long it takes to enter the iPad2 world. The Next iPadAs far as development of the next iPad goes, currently there does not seem to be any long term problems associated with the Foxconn accident. This incident was so close to the iPad2 launch that any available new technology is not even going to hit the production line for at least nine months to one year if not longer. However, rumors circulating around Hollywood are touting the next iPad to be the iPad3D. This will be a glasses-free 3D screen currently being researched and designed for a possible late 2012 market. This is most likely due to the already successful 3D launch by slight competitor Nintendo. In the meantime expect to see more and more of a push from entertainment and gaming studios for iPad compatible 3D content. It is also not such a far-fetched notion of the iPad3D being able to take and/or assimilate 3D photos with a new camera and capable screen. However, these are rumors, but Foxconn has been notorious in spreading technological rumors that have more often than not come to fruition. Simple supply and demand has been keeping Apple products in constant flux and this explosion is no exception. If design and capability of Apple products remain ahead of their competitors most consumers will not worry much over weather, technical or accidental disasters that may temporarily slow down production. |

| 4 Different Effects You Can Add to Your Logos and How to Do it Well Posted: 24 Dec 2019 03:48 AM PST
Guest Post by Adrian Gonzalez. TonesUsing tones is one of the easier ways to make your logo attractive while keeping a simple modern look. All you have to do is decide on a color scheme based on what your logo stands for and choose 2 or more variation on a single color. In the example below, we have the fictional company AirThread. I chose blue as the main color and used a dark and light variant to create an understated look. Using tones is made even easier by the swatch libraries available in Adobe Illustrator. You can pick a collection of colors that go well together and just click around until it looks right. For this example I used the "Cool" color palette.
GradientsYou can use gradients in a number of ways on your logo design depending on whether you're using Illustrator or Photoshop. When using Illustrator, the gradient mesh tool is the best way to go. That simple tool gives you a lot of options for getting your logo the way you want it. Let's take a closer look:

That will create an arrow that will allow out to add points to the object you click, creating a mesh around the shape that looks like this:
You can click as many times as you want to add as many different colors as you want but to make something look round you really only need 2 to 4. Decide whether you want to cast your light from the left or the right then place your highlights and shadows accordingly to give your object dept. Using lighter or darker shades of your main color will make your end product more realistic than using just grey and white. In our finished product, you can see that the eggs are a little shiny because we added one area of dark and one area of light to each.
While making logos is easier in Illustrator, mostly because they are vectors that can be sized at will, gradient treated logos are better in Photoshop. Again we'll start with our text:
And instead of using the standard gradient tool in Photoshop, we're going to use the "FX" button on your layers tab (note if you have a version of Photoshop earlier than CS2 you won't have this button). That button will bring up this screen:
You choose how much transparency you want in the "Opacity" field, what colors you want from the "Gradient" drop down, which direction you want the gradient to slant in the "Angle" box and how big or how small you want the gradient to appear on your objects or letters from the "Scale" bar. Selecting the above options and adding a black background gave me this:
Not super high tech but it accomplishes the feel I was going for. The reason Photoshop is better in this arena is that handy little window. You can edit and change and tweak without really altering your image, the whole thing is an overlay so if you wanted to retype your wording or change you logo from a oval to a triangle, you wouldn't have to start again from scratch. ShadowsShadows can be more than just drop shadows, they can also serve as reflections. For the next example, we'll start with our Ghosteck logo and add a little bit of a shadow to show how something small can take a good logo to better. The first thing you need to do is make a copy of your layer then turn it upside down and flip it so it's a mirror image. Then you fade it. Basically I reversed all the settings I had in that handy window then tweaked it till I thought it looked right.
And that gave me this…
GlowGlow can do a lot of things and is considered a lighting effect. Basically what it does is create an edge around your object or text that softly disperses color. You can control the color, how far from your object it goes out and whether or not the cloud is smooth or looks like static. For this example I went with a smooth glow for a semi haunting look.
Accomplishing this look was easy, again the handy "FX" window helped me choose the right glow settings to make Ghosteck a little less plain. I just moved the sliders bask and forth until I found a medium I could be happy with.
There is one caution though; too many effects will have people staring at your logo for the wrong reason. Subtlety and moderation are the key in making a dressed up logo look effortlessly powerful. |

It is almost entirely true to say that if you can wish it, the Internet can provide it. If you want to download free music, there is General Files, if you want amateur videos, there is YouTube, if you want information there is Wikipedia and so much more. But you have probably heard more about Wikipedia and YouTube than you have about General Files although the latter is as valuable, at least to me. So, it is time that I introduce you, my dear reader to this fabulous resource. The basic idea is quite simple. There are tons of videos that you want to watch, and there are so many mp3s that you want to listen to. So, where do you turn to find what you really want? General Files is the answer to that question, and my what an elegant answer! All you need to do is use the search box and look for the audio or video file that you want, and voila! There you have the file to view or download. Of course General Files is not the only such site. There is one more site that I like for similar reasons and that is more of a free software catalog. I am referring to General Catalog. This site too has a bunch of interesting videos, such as popular TV shows. Of course you can get a lot else too, such a music, software, templates, magazines, games, and still more. So that brings me back to where I started. Isn't it fabulous that the Internet has placed all these amazing resources at our finger tips?
